This is an opportunity to use your professional experience to contribute to the continuing strategic development of the school and to apply and develop your skills to make a positive impact on the opportunities available for our children.
The governors of Kingham Primary School are seeking to appoint two co-opted governors to support the strong strategic leadership, accountability and performance of the school.
The primary function of the governors is to ensure clarity of vision, ethos and strategic direction; to hold executive leaders to account for the educational performance of the organisation, staff and children; and to ensure that its budget is spent properly.
We welcome governors who can bring a diverse range of skills, experiences, qualifications, characteristics and perspectives.
We are looking for applicants who can provide professional experience and expertise, especially in managing projects, people, policies, processes and performance.
The role offers an opportunity to help shape the strategy of the school and ensure that it provides the best possible educational environment and learning progress for our children.
These are unpaid non-executive positions, which involve a considerable commitment, including contributing to evening meetings every half term and participating in particular aspects of school governance. Previous governance experience is desirable but not essential. Training, mentoring and support will be provided.
Being a school governor can be very personally fulfilling. The governors seek to work together cooperatively in the best interests of the school and its children, which can be a satisfying and enjoyable experience.
Applications are welcome from parents and anyone from across the community. Candidates will be subject to safer recruitment checks. This includes obtaining an enhanced criminal records certificate from the Disclosure and Barring Service, which will be applied for through the local authority.
Up to two co-opted positions are available but the governors can also appoint non-voting associate governors to fulfil particular roles.
Applicants are invited to provide a brief covering letter, indicating their relevant experience and how they could contribute to the work of the governors. Selected candidates will be invited to meet the governors and discuss the role in more detail.
The closing date for applications is 12 noon on Friday 19 July.
Visits to find out more about the school are welcome and encouraged. They can be arranged by contacting the school office.
You can learn more about the work of the governors and read our annual report in the Governance section of the Kingham Primary School web site.
