Instilling a love of reading is a priority at our school. We are passionate about developing a love of reading and an enjoyment of writing. We believe that reading is fundamental and ensure that as well as developing a love of reading, achieve great results through a rigorous approach to teaching phonics and word recognition, extending vocabulary and providing reading opportunities across the entire curriculum.
Our passion for reading is further enriched through our involvement in the Chipping Norton Literary Festival, the Oxfordshire Annual Book Awards, frequent author visits to the school, trips to the Story Museum and our very own book week!
Books are a focus throughout our curriculum, providing an opportunity to not only broaden pupils’ knowledge and understanding, but also the opportunity to escape to another world. From Nursery through to Year 6, we use carefully selected, high-quality texts that link with our termly topics ensuring that Kingham pupils experience reading a broad range of genres, authors and poetry to inspire students to develop language skills, write creatively and enjoy all that books have to offer to us. Our lunchtime book club, allows an opportunity for pupils to further demonstrate their love of reading with like-minded pupils, reading, discussing, and reviewing texts.
