Maths Activity of the Week

Take your Maths outdoors this summer!
Count the number of ducks you can see at the pond, the number of trees you pass on your walk.
Pay for the shopping and work out your change.
See how many different shapes you can find in your garden.

The world is your oyster.

Below is the link to the Maths website Sumdog.
The children have all been given their log in details, which have been stuck to the inside left front cover of their school diaries.
(Please keep these stuck in so that the children can access them easily at home and during the school day)

(Any work that you do and would like to bring in to show, I would love to see!)

Our Learning Journey

We created a lullaby for the Giant to help to send him to sleep in Music.

A tea party fit for a Queen! We had a wonderful time celebrating the Queen's 90th birthday. We enjoyed our Maths challenge calculating how many tables we could fit on the playground and sat down to have a brilliant picnic in the sunshine, Thank you to everyone who provided us with tasty treats.

17th May- Stratford Butterfly farm and garden centre. Wow look at all of the butterflies... they really liked us, lots landed on us. We learnt lots and had a wonderful day.

Inspired by the very hungry caterpillar we created our own picture book and practised retelling the story. We then paired up with Reception and told them the story. It was a lot of fun!

Friday saw our final two Margaret (Maggie) and Rex hatch! Harry and Isabel put the chick book next to the brooder so they could see what their Mum and Dad would look like. We had the chance in the afternoon to hold the chicks and really enjoyed it.

Thursday- Chick update. Wow we came into four new arrivals! Babs, Rosie, Bella and Alvin. Some of us were lucky enough to see number 7 Goldi and number 8 chickjetter hatch!!

In Year 1 we have some very special visitors. So far we have two new additions to our Kingham family.... Glenda and Jakey. We look forward to meeting their siblings and taking care of them.

Year 1 have had a very sport week raising money for Sports Relief. We have been clocking up our miles each day totalling an amazing 214 miles!!! In our triathlon we also managed to complete 169 space hopper relays, 131 football skill relays and 565 running relays! We should all be very proud of ourselves and enjoy our well deserved weekend!

On the 9th March Year 1 headed to Chipping Norton to take part in the Year 1 dance festival. It was a lot of fun and we enjoyed being the different sea creatures in the story... Can you tell what animal we were?

World Book Day magic! We had a wonderful time dressing up as characters from our favourite books. We also enjoyed our Dance Workshop performing 'Where the wild things are'.

We had a wonderful time visiting Cotswold Wildlife Park to see the animals from Africa. We found out lots of interesting facts that we could use in our Non- Fiction writing back in the classroom.

Our Maths learning continued with the Meerkats.... first they escaped! We used our directional language to find where the trails lead. We made 3D traps for the meerkats and once they were safe, we used the information sent by the vet to draw them using our measuring skills and compared their weights. We were all very sad to weigh them, find the postal cost and send them back but look forward to checking the Wildlife website to see them where they belong.

A parcel from Africa was delivered addressed to Cotswold Wildlife Park with the return address Africa! It is inspiring lots of Maths learning....

We have enjoyed our festive celebrations and were very lucky to have a special visitor stop by during our party!!

We are enjoying finishing off our Christmas term performing our Nativity. We are having a lot of fun, it is a party after all !

How exciting.... We received a letter from the Queen for the cards we made to celebrate her becoming the longest reigning monarch on September 10th! We are a very lucky class and each child has a copy of the letter to treasure at home.

Nothing stops Year 1's learning! We took to the woods in the rain to aid our creative story writing.

On Wednesday 9th September we held an Afternoon Party in honour of Queen Elizabeth breaking Queen Victoria's record as the longest reigning monarch! We made the Queen cards, which Mrs Cullip is going to send to her as she thinks the Queen will love them!

A suitcase arrived containing:
-A letter
-A map of London
-Pictures of Buckingham Palace and Queen Victoria
-A crown and a medal
-Elegant dresses
-Special Items with the Queen's image on

We explored the items and thought about whose suitcase it could be. It was very exciting!
When we opened the letter, we realised that Prince Phillip needs to practice his handwriting! The Postman thought he had written Kingham Primary not Buckingham Palace!
