European Languages Day

On Monday 28 th September we celebrated European languages Day with various fun activities around the school. Most of us got to taste some foods from another country such as stollen, pepperoni, croissants with jam and a very yummy wafer layered cake from Poland!

Foundation Stage had great fun and Years 1(visit their page to see the pictures) and 2 had a special French visitor who came into help.

Years 3, 4 and 5 made traditional Barvarian Eidelweiss hats with a feather and flower on, learnt some German vocabulary and had a go at a song in German too and became travel agents planning a trip around Spain or Germany on the new laptops. What a busy day!

We ended the day with a special assembly sharing the things that we’d done.

Year 2008/2009

Sports day

Sponsored Sports Day

On Tuesday 7 th July, Ben Challenger came in to show us his high jump scissor technique. We found that his highest height that he can jump is 2 metres 30 cm which is equivalent to a door and a ruler on top. He has inspired some of us to try high jump. 2 metres 35cm was the highest measurement reached in the last Beijing Olympics. Ben started when he was 13 and he is still jumping now at 31. Once, when he was high jumping, Ben snapped his Achilles tendon which is at the back of your heel like a thick bit of string.

He told us how the fosbury flop got its name. He prefers this type of jump rather than the scissors when he is jumping. We had our photos taken with Ben. At first we were a little scared as we didn’t know him. Ben was really nice though. When we saw him it made us smile and be a bit excited! As soon as we had our picture taken we went on to the exercises we had been sponsored for.

Most of us felt it was amazing to meet a person who is only 5cm away from being the world’s best high jumper. At the end of our assembly there were still loads of people who wanted to ask questions! He gave some people his autograph before he left. It was a great morning and we really enjoyed ourselves!

Science Week - Kite Man

Mrs Powling organised for Nick James, a professional Kite maker and exhibitor to come in and work with the childrenon 19/20 March.

He has spent time with every class making and flying Kites and all the children have been able to bring a kite home.

I know they loved the workshops and we are all looking forward to his display this afternoon where he will be flying some spectacular kites, including a life-size Pterodactyl!

It has been a fantastic few days. Thanks to Mrs Powling. http://www.nickjameskitemaker.com
