Admissions>WELCOME

Welcome to Kingham Primary School

For most children, schooling at Kingham started in their Reception Year. This is the September after their 4 th birthday. We offer children full time places which means they can be with us from 9.00am until 3.00pm every weekday.

The admissions process is managed entirely by Oxfordshire Local Authority. The school doesn’t keep a waiting list and nothing happens until the autumn before your child is due to start school. So please don’t worry or become anxious about school whilst your children are very young – just enjoy them whilst they are home with you!

About a year before your child is due to start school you will be contacted by your local Education Authority with information about how to apply for a place. The booklet they send explores in details the application procedure and gives details of all the schools in the area so that you are in a good position to start your selection process. If for any reason you don’t receive a copy of this booklet by the end of September, it is essential that either contact the Local Authority directly, or come into school to collect an application pack as we too have a supply of these booklets.

It is always a good idea to view the school, or schools that you are thinking of sending your child to. A first hand tour of the school, and talk with the head teacher will give you a real insight into the way a school operates, the priorities it has as well as the school’s atmosphere and ethos, all of which we believe are essential factors in making your child’s time at school as successful as possible.

If you would like to look around Kingham Primary School do contact Lizzie Aldridge in the office (01608 658366) and make an appointment.

Once you have decided which school you would like your child to attend then please ensure that your application and preferences are made on time – usually by mid November. Late applications are not considered until after all the ‘on time’ applications have been processed, so it is essential that the timings given by the Local Authority are adhered to.

Parents will then be offered a school place for their child in March of the following year. Once an offer has been accepted, staff of Kingham Primary School will then get in touch with you and make arrangements for your child to be inducted into school. (meetings with parents, open mornings, visits by the children, welcome packs etc)

If you are moving to the area, or wanting to change schools, your first call should be to the school office where we will be able to tell you if there are spaces in the class (we have a maximum of 30 children in each class) and then arrange for you to look around the school and give your details of the county’s transfer arrangements.

Please do come and see us. We have a unique special and friendly school. The children and staff are very used to visitors and you would be warmly welcomed.
